The Capitol Square is happy to announce the addition of the KidCasso Art Studio to our community. Located at 2 Lake Street Kidcasso is an art studio designed for students from ages 3-18 to study, explore, and create original works of art. Students will be engaged in a variety of artistic activities that will encourage team building skills, communication skills and self-awareness skills, along with building upon the National Art Education Standards. Students will be immersed in painting, drawing, sculpture, and a multitude of other art forms.

In addition to the classes listed on the classes page, Kidcasso also offers private instruction and is great for girl/boy scout troops.

Battle Boredom!The ARTBEAT Studio is open every day to help you “keep’em busy” this holiday vacation. Children older than 8 can stay by themselves for up to an hour, younger than 8 needs an adult with them at all times.

WHAT CAN WE DO DURING VACATION?You can make a gift or something special to keep for yourself. Make a mosaic, paint a frame or a canvas, learn how to use Decopatch™ papers on boxes or bangles, make beeswax designs on candles, create an art doll, and try Creative Sand Adventures™.
WHO IS IT FOR?Anyone who is bored over the School vacation! Anyone who wants to have some artsy fun!
Think of the Walk-In Studio as a great place for family bonding. Make something together, or admire each other while you each do your own thing.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?Prices range from $10 to $85 per project, depending on the size and type of surface you choose. Most projects are in the $15 to $25 range. A complete project list is available in the Studio.

WHEN CAN WE COME?Our Walk-In Studio is open every day. Come during posted hours. Call first on weekends, as space is limited and we may have birthday parties scheduled.

Groups of 3 or more should call in advance to ensure seating.

About the video

Business owners in Capitol Square in East Arlington, MA, are enthusiastic about their business district, so much so that they decided to sing about it.

It started with Jan Whitted, from ARTBEAT Creativity Store and Studio, who likes to rewrite song lyrics (and once did so for the Boston Pops). She wrote lyrics to “Let It Snow” that extol Capitol Square as the best place to shop and dine, and shared them with fellow business owners who work together to plan monthly and seasonal events for the area.

Marc Gurton, the owner of 13FOREST Gallery volunteered to help record the song. He recruited Eileen Ani, also from 13FOREST, Brian Phillips from Maxima Gift Center, and Andrai Whitted from ARTBEAT. The four met at the landmark Capitol Theatre and sang in the new ice cream parlor recently built inside the historic lobby. East Arlington resident Walter Locke volunteered to videotape the carolers, and the video will air on local cable station ACMi.TV.

The result, an a cappella showcase of collegial enthusiasm, is an example of community spirit that proves that life—even with a frightful economy—is quite delightful.

Women’s Clothing Sale Nov 12 & 13!

It only happens a couple of times a year, so don’t miss the next women’s used clothing sale to benefit the Fox Library.

This hugely popular sale will take place on Friday, November 12, 5-9pm, and Saturday, November 13, 1-6pm, in the lower level of the Fox Library, 175 Massachusetts Avenue, East Arlington.

The sale will feature thousands of items, including contemporary clothing, shoes, jewelry, handbags, and other accessories, all in like-new condition, and many with original tags. Brands include labels from mall stores, fine catalogs, and boutiques. There also will be an eclectic selection of gently-used house wares and vintage clothing and accessories.

Although the bulk of the clothing will be in misses sizes, there also will be many items in junior sizes, and a beautiful and extensive selection of plus size pieces. Clothing prices will average about $4.00.

To avoid the crowds, shop on the second day of the event – Saturday the 13th; there still will be loads of merchandise to choose from.

13Forest Gallery: The animal kingdom continues to reign in Capitol Square this Third Thursday October 15 as 13FOREST Gallery hosts a reception and talk in support of its fall exhibit Queer Animals.

Gallery Director Marc Gurton will read a selection of the quirkiest poems from Charles Mortimer’s Some Queer Animals and Why, the 1947 book of children’s poems which serves as the inspiration for the exhibit. Also up for discussion is the show’s queerness – or lack thereof – and how Burt Reynolds, zombies, and Icarus are members of what the Boston Phoenix dubbed a “preposterous zoo.”http://13forest.com/press/091809bostonphoenix.shtml
