• Peace Lantern. This round white paper lantern adds a soft glow to any room, and can sit on a table or hang. Add colorful flowers and butterflies to create your own design. $12

As Memorial Day approaches, we think about ways we can work together toward a peaceful world. Often that means starting in our own communities. Artbeat kicks off an Art for Peace fundraiser this Thursday with free family fun and a way to support local programs that work for peace.

Support the Lenny Zakim Fund when you shop at Artbeat on Thursday, May 17th. Founded in 1995 by Boston’s late civil rights leader, the Lenny Zakim fund believes that positive social change can be created by small, effective, grassroots organizations. LZF provides funding to 58 local programs that are improving literacy, alleviating poverty and ending youth violence.

Eager for summer, 13Forest chased down ten artists to play a little game. Tagging them “it,” they invited them each to make a piece for a group show. But a round of tag never stops there and they challenged them to continue the game by tagging ten more artists to take their spots midsummer.

With all this running around, 13FOREST will soon become a playground where twenty artists take over home base. Come see how nicely they all play together!

During this two-hour class, you will learn basic elements of traditional henna designs and use them to draw and embellish your own paisley tattoos. Bring a friend and you can decorate each other, or just henna yourself! You’ll get to enjoy your design for up to 3 weeks while the stain lingers on your skin. For Adults and teens (13 and up).
