Capitol Square Community Ambassador: Gail Teschmacher McCormick

The current featured Community Ambassador for the Capitol Square is Gail Teschmacher McCormick.

Gail shifted from producing art for corporations to focusing on environmental issues with OUR FRAGILE EARTH (exhibited in Town Hall this past March-May, among many other far flung places). In addition she is co-chair of Sustainable Arlington and works with statewide environmental organizations. As a relative newcomer, she now paints local street scenes to portray the wonderful sense of community in this Town.Photographs provide inspiration, with considerable liberties taken especially through addition of people everywhere. Paintings are very small–typically 8″ x 16” or 8″ x 12″ using watered down acrylic. In

these difficult times it is nice to be able to offer relief with pleasing color and a sense of belonging. Gail’s wonderful paintings of Arlington are available for purchase as greeting cards at Artbeat.

Sustainable Arlington is a Vision2020 Environment Task Group Committee and a chapter of the Massachusetts Climate Action Network, Sustainable Arlington acts on a local level to promote climate stabilization and other important environmental goals. Learn more

Welcome to Kidcasso Art Studio

The Capitol Square is happy to announce the addition of the KidCasso Art Studio to our community. Located at 2 Lake Street Kidcasso is an art studio designed for students from ages 3-18 to study, explore, and create original works of art. Students will be engaged in a variety of artistic activities that will encourage team building skills, communication skills and self-awareness skills, along with building upon the National Art Education Standards. Students will be immersed in painting, drawing, sculpture, and a multitude of other art forms.

In addition to the classes listed on the classes page, Kidcasso also offers private instruction and is great for girl/boy scout troops.

Painting Pottery at Clay Dreams

Recently I visited Clay dreams with my Mom to paint some Pottery. I had never done it before and I had a great time. I painted a coffee mug and my Mom painted a bowl. The place was filled with great surfaces to paint and lots of kids and adults having fun. I haven’t picked my piece up yet, so I’m not sure how well it will come out, but that’s not the point! Its all about having fun, and that’s why it’s great to live in the Capitol square Area of Arlington.
